Welcome! Life is like a tornado and everyday I sit behind my computer thinking to myself I’ve got to slow down just a bit. So I did for one year to regain my energy and direction in life with Jodeyne and a family to come. SOON! Sometimes I can get pretty darn deep and I get lost in my thoughts and I have to be honest with you I am pretty close to myself. If you know me as a friend you know I am pretty quiet at home, but in the public I am very how do you say it “THERE”. I am not sure what it is that drives me all the time but I am always up to something. Usually all good too. Over the last year I have been trying to figure out life and where it leads me and I look into the mirror seeing a pretty happy guy, but behind that face in the mirror I find a very quiet person and in solitude with himself. I was lucky, fortunate or how ever you see it to have had a life like I have had. I found my loved one and partner for life many years ago. Through all the ups and downs I sit here typing to myself and bloging to the world that life has been worth living the way we have. “ITS THE WAY WE ROLL PEOPLE!”
Some people will never understand our life, (THATS OKAY!) and it is kind of like a gypsy with out all the drama and a camper. (We are artists and athletes you know!) But with that said we have seen and entertained many people of the world over and over in many different and wonderful places. From children to old people, Men and Ladies, Straights and Gays to the sick and challenged, and less fortunate. Skating has taken us to many spiritual places within. We are so happy to have been living this life, yet as a performer it is a very lonely life when you look at the big picture of it all. We leave family and friends behind to go on and live the life as a performer on the road, always on the move, and I think this is why I always seem to fall back to photography before everything else. From my point of view and perspective I can tell you that I have stood on stage with 98,000 people in the stadium and performed for them with a billion watching around the world. Yes it is true, but I can also tell you that it was a moment in time that is captured only by one person which is me and the other performers. I hold those memories unless they are on film or video. Memories are mostly captures by film, and that is why it is so precious and valued by me. Every single day that I have taken the ice in a show I get this charge inside that I have to do it again and again and get those people standing and which we (Jodeyne and I) do when we take the stage with our cast. It is an addiction (a good one) when you hear men, women and children cheering for you while standing on their feet. It is the highest compliment a performer can receive besides a paycheck and a raise. We broke the mold when we skated for the crowds, this giant man that is pretty gentle on his feet, with light or strong bold movements tossing this strong little girl around and flying her through the air. Every time we did this we got stonger and better and started to feel the crowds naturally. There is this one move the bounce spin, one of our signature moves. We hauled ass doing it! The more the people screamed the bigger and faster we went. We would finish that move and bang MEN yes Men would be standing on their feet cheering (thinking I wish I could do that to my wife too) LOL! Sad but true! Gents I give safety lessons first though, okay! Anyhow that is where the addiction to listening to the crowd roar would come from for me. As time would stand still for those few moments, you could feel the connection with the people. That was for you mate, and for you, and you, and you… And from us that was our message of communication to all the people saying that was for you all. Thank you! It is an unbelievable feeling and only a few other ways have I ever experienced that feeling of exhilaration. If you are wondering what did create that feeling, well that started with jumping out of a perfectly good air plane at 15,000 feet (thank you Patrick Swayze from the movie Pointe Break, and also Mountain Climbing when I was younger, and other sports)
This is where photography fits my life though, you know that one moment that I was talking about in the communication of the crowd, Jodeyne and myself that very moment when everything comes to a climax, I get the same feeling when the sound of the shutter clicks for me. I want to preserve that very moment in time and after studying the great masters of film and listening to many lectures over the years I have found that you cannot capture the essence of the being you can only capture what you see through one eye and a piece of glass. No not a coke bottle! The key for me is to capture the moment and feeling of that very second or 1/4000 of a second. Yup that is pretty fast. The more I see the light and that moment the subject gives the photographer the opportunity to capture that very essence of time. I always strived to get the subject’s spirit in the photo but honestly you cannot capture the soul in a picture too. You got to kill the person and pin it to the picture. LOL! What you can get is the communication of what the subject is trying to say or to lead you to think they are thinking. Think about it when you go to do your next shoots, I know I will.
This all leads up to me telling you with what we are up to now. I got tired of me, sitting waiting and seeing what was going to come. Ladies and Gents its a tough world out there and no one is ever going to hand that something to you for nothing so we may as well create. It was time for me to get my butt in gear and become a leader again and start coaching people, make a website, and start making some new art that will one day become art for someones walls. Something Ventured Something Gained is to reach out to the community to help people that want to tell a story. Their Story! Their Change! Their Dreams! Their Opportunity! Photography is communicating and how we would like to tell you our stories through this medium. Every single day this past three months I have been steadily working and developing new contacts and clients, encouraging them to get onboard to tell me their stories. Communication is so important and also having a common goal is even more important. People are everything to me!
This week is step three in our process and the actual start of the project in shooting mode for this fall season. We have 5 subjects/ clients (at that moment but we want more in the future) that we are currently working with on Something Ventured – Something Gained and soon we plan to release the ebooks to help those stories out. Serenity Photo has self funded this project for the time being, but we would love to have your help if your are willing to make a donation to the cause. If you find a cause that you are interested in helping to tell these peoples stories along with us just click this donation button. P.S. Many thanks will come from us at Serenity Photo, we will use the donated money wisely on these projects. Trust me Jodeyne keeps us on Track! She is the head honcho’s Boss!
The topics that we are working on are:

-On the Road
-Life Around the World
-Families with Problems
